John Goldingay on Tithing

Last week at the Wheatland Mission Brian shared a communion meditation based upon Micah 6:1-8. This passage concludes with the great “… and what does God require of you? But to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.” Taking this sacrifice concept as his cue Brian made mention of how giving of our financial resources is both part of our worship and, unfortunately, woefully misunderstood.

John Goldingay is a Brit who teaches Old Testament at Fuller Seminary. Godlingay raises some important points about tithing. It is true that the Old Testament doesn’t make tithing a requirement. However, when reading the OT one comes away with the idea that tithing is normal. But, how, when and to whom/what we give is just as important.
